When it comes to sleep, those precious hours can make or break you. A good night’s sleep enables you to tackle the day with energy and enthusiasm. A sleepless night can make every hour seem like a lifetime. There are lots of things that can prevent you from sleeping. For parents and pet owners, disturbances during the night may be commonplace. In other cases, your sleeping environment may be to blame. If you struggle to sleep, have you asked yourself if your home is keeping you up? If things are going bump in the night, here are some tips to help you sleep easy.
What’s making that noise?
Do you wake during the night as a result of noise? Or do you find it difficult to get to sleep when you climb into bed? Most of us don’t enjoy total silence when we head up to the bedroom. But if noise is preventing you from sleeping, it’s worth trying to pinpoint where it’s coming from, and try and find solutions. If you’ve got creaking pipes or a noisy heating system, for example, it may be possible to replace older fittings and pipes with new ones or adjust the time the heating comes on, so that you don’t hear the radiators clunking.
Do you struggle to sleep because you can hear the neighbours talking or playing music? It’s perfectly acceptable to make noise during the day, but if your neighbours are keeping you up at night, ask them very politely if they could be a little more considerate.
If you live near a main road or establishments that are open late, such as pubs or bars, you may find that raised voices or loud music keeps you up. If this sounds familiar, you could consider wearing earplugs when you sleep or investing in toughened glass and thick curtains, which help to reduce noise. If you don’t already have double glazing, this makes a massive difference to noise levels.
Another noisy problem you may encounter is pests. Household intruders, such as mice, rats, and mosquitoes can interrupt blissful silence, and make you feel unnerved for the rest of the night. If you hear scrabbling and scuttling noises or there’s an incessant buzzing in your ear, search online for pest busters or mosquito control firms. It’s important to deal with infestations, not just for your sanity, but also for the sake of your home and your health. Pests can cause significant damage to your property, and they often pose a risk to your health too.
Do you have difficulty sleeping? Is noise the main problem? There are lots of different sounds you may hear when you’re trying to drift off. From rattling radiators to rats who seem to be hosting a party in the loft, it’s common to encounter unwanted disturbances. If you are battling with noise every night, there may be solutions, which could restore peace. Consider enlisting the help of experts to have a look at household problems, and don’t be afraid to approach the neighbours if they are keeping you awake at night. The sooner you get sorted, the better. A lack of sleep can be really damaging to your physical and mental health.
