Last friday Elaine (Love, Life & Pixels) and I headed to Vale House Kitchen in Timsbury, Nr Bath to attend a Children’s Cake Course hosted by award winning Sandra Monger. I had been lucky enough to win the course for 2 from Jo (Slummy single mummy) and I never win anything!
When we arrived, well the location is gorgeous. A proper country home, and as we walked up into the kitchen it was the perfect setting for this country skills and cookery school. Bod and Annie are such lovely people and welcome you into their property and make you feel like part of the family.
Sandra’s teaching is very easy to follow and she is a natural teacher with a amazing talent. We enjoyed using sugar paste, colour it and learning some great tips on making it look professional and with ease. And constructing our cake pop eyes.
We were then treated to a bbq by the pool, joined by the owners son – who by the way is such a cutie and knows how to charm the ladies! Served gorgeous food in glorious weather and we felt like we could have been abroad – we almost didn’t want to go back to the cake making and wished we had bought a swimming cossie with us!
After lunch we went back to start piecing our cake together after making mouth, teeth, claws and hands. We then learnt some tips and tricks on piping buttercream without getting covered which I have done many times.
By the end of the day we had proudly produced a professional looking Children’s Monster cake and we got to box it up and take it home. We had such a great time we almost didn’t want to leave!
The Children’s cake course is £135 per person (lunch included) and is definitely worth the cost.
I couldn’t say a bad word about it, there is nothing I would change and I can’t reccomend it enough! It’s not something I had ever thought about doing but now I’m trying to decide what course I can do next!
