Every so often we want to get our friends together to kick back for an evening of fun, gossip, giggles and cocktails. If you’re going to be the host, why not set yourself apart from the crowd and create a super stylish soiree that will make you the talk of the town? There are lots of easy and effective little things you can do to throw an awesome event in your home. Make sure you are well groomed for the night and always available for any requests. So, it’s time be the hostess with the mostess and follow some of the tips below.
Set up a WhatsApp group and choose which friends you want to invite. Make sure to have a good mix of couples and singles so everyone feels comfortable. Create paperless invitations to keep track of everyone and to add to your organisational skills. Follow up a couple of days before to make sure that everyone who said they were coming still intends to turn up. Try to keep it to about ten people if you are hosting at home. Unless of course, you have a Kardashian style mansion!
Everyone loves a good party, so why not give your guests a high-octane event that is super stylish. This doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Stick to a theme colour. Make it white and pink, or gold and silver. Or whatever colours suit your style. Bring in lots of fresh flowers in tall vases for a touch of instant chic. Decorate your table in your chosen colour with napkins and name plates that match. Add fairy lights for ambience. Keep some table games to one side for pre and after dinner fun. Make sure you have enough toilet roll and extra sanitary items for guests that might need them. And get everyone to take their shoes off at the door.
Gather together a mixture of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Fill pitchers with ice and water and add a dash of lime or lemon. Create two signature cocktails for the night. Get in some cool Japanese Kikori Whiskey and make some pitchers of Blood & Sand. This super stylish cocktail originates from the 1920’s. It’s a mixture of four easy ingredients: whiskey, sweet vermouth, Cherry Heering and orange juice. Keep your other cocktail Champagne based. Choose a French 75 to amp up the glamour. A French 75 only requires Champagne, gin, lemon juice and syrup. Make sure you have plush garnishes and enough glasses to go round!
Serve a decadent buffet selection meal for ease. You can offer platters of mackerel and lobster and halloumi stuffed peppers and smoked salmon soufflés. Make some Kentucky-style fried chicken and add cool dips. Make sure to include some vegetarian dishes such as tortilla chips and guacamole and potato frittata with pesto. And don’t forget a cheese plate for after dinner!
Playlist and Games
Ask your guests for a few requests each before the party. Then create an upbeat funky playlist and a chilled out one for later in the evening. Also, consider favourite movie playlists for a good talking point. Pretty Woman, Top Gun and Dirty Dancing spring to mind!
As the host just keep making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and are well fed and not thirsty. Keep the conversation flowing by creating new topics to talk about and include some after dinner games too.
