A big tradition in my household is the family film night. We try to make sure we have this once per week as it gives us a chance to bond and enjoy some entertainment. But, I know what it can be like when it comes time to choose the films. Invariably a dispute will always ensue over what people want to watch and why. And this is all part of the whole process of having a film night.
So you need to try to come up with solutions to make the film night run as smoothly as possible. And the way to do this is to determine what you’re going to watch as a family. In order to achieve this decision harmoniously, I would recommend you follow my suggestions below. These are based on my experiences dealing with family film nights!
What’s the Choice?
The first thing I’m going to recommend is sorting out what the options are for choosing your film. Now, these days there are more options than ever before when you’re trying to choose a film. You could select something that’s on TV, but that means timing has to be perfect. You might choose something from the DVD collection, but then you’re limited in choice. These days it’s generally common to use some sort of online movie databases such as YTS or Netflix. These provide you with a huge range of movies to choose from.
Because it’s a family film night, you need to bear in mind he content of the film you’re going to put on. I always make sure I do the required research to check that the movie is child-friendly. The last thing you want is to choose a film and start watching it to then find out it’s unsuitable. You need to make sure you do your research ahead of time. Choosing a family-friendly film is harder than it seems, particularly when you factor in that everyone has to agree.
Another suggestion I’ve found can work very well is to get seasonal with your movie choices. That means that you can base your choices around whatever time of year it is. It’s good to do this sort of thing around Thanksgiving and Christmas. In fact, you could even work your way through some of the top movies to watch at Christmas as they’re bound to be on. So, by getting seasonal, you add some more variables in and give yourself the extra choice.
On some occasions, it might be nice to go out for a family film night and attend the cinema. If you’re going to do this make sure you book well in advance. If the kids have chosen the movie, it’s likely to be one that’s in high demand. Make sure you have a look at the listings for any movie you might want to see, and book tickets as soon as possible.
So these are a few of the things you might want to do on family film night. They will help you make a decision about the sorts of movies you want to choose. Hopefully, you find my list helpful, and you can have an enjoyable family film night.
