Pregnancy is a difficult time and a testing phase for all mothers. If you are expecting or already have a baby then the thought must have crossed your mind – “Can I exercise while pregnant?”. Well yes, you can. There are obviously some things that you’ll have to take care of but it’s quite safe and even healthy to be working out when you’re pregnant. It will help you bear the pains of pregnancy and might even help you during delivery. Let’s have a look at some things that you’ll need to take care of if you’re going to be working out while pregnant.
Type of exercise
There are obviously some types of exercises that you can and cannot do during pregnancy. Your body is going through a lot of changes and the exercises will change subsequently.
Exercises that are smooth and help you build your core are encouraged. Walking, yoga and swimming are some of the exercises which you should be trying out. Swimming becomes interesting while pregnant as you feel a lot more buoyancy in the water than before. Cycling on a smooth road and pilates are also common when expecting.
Some of the things that you can not do are sports and exercises where there’s a danger of falling or too many jerks. Horse Riding, football and basketball are a big no. You are not supposed to be jumping, so any exercise that involves sudden movements is strictly forbidden.
What to wear
What you’re wearing during exercise makes a lot of difference to your body and when you’re pregnant, it is absolutely essential to be wearing the right clothes. Start by selecting a comfortable tank top made of breathable material that won’t irritate the skin. Make sure it isn’t too tight on the bulge but firm enough to restrict too much movement. When it comes to what you’re wearing on the legs then experts at a workout clothing brand Fabletics suggest only sweatpants or yoga pants. You would also have to make sure that the material doesn’t irritate your skin and is breathable. Your shoes are supposed to be very comfortable as your feet take a lot of burden during the time of pregnancy. Any type of sneakers that you’re comfortable in would do the job.
You should be avoiding excessive sweating or heat. Hot pilates and hot yoga are out of the question. You should be avoiding saunas and other hot places. Make sure your area is properly ventilated and you have a constant supply of fresh air. If the area is too humid then you should consider turning on the air conditioner for a bit.
Working out during your pregnancy is very good provided you keep the aforementioned points in mind. Consulting your doctor before you start any new form of exercise is also recommended as you could be suffering from complications that would restrict the types of exercise that you can do. So take it easy, do not stress yourself out too much and enjoy some light exercises.
