While a cozy winter and Christmas time at home is lovely, come the new year, and most of us are pretty fed up with the cold weather. And when the warmer months roll around, it’s time to start getting out there and living life again. Going places, socializing and generally having fun! There are a few ways you can make the most out of your home when the weather is nicer too, here’s how you can take advantage over the coming months.
Install Solar Panels
Not only do solar panels help the environment (since they provide energy without burning fossil fuels) but they also save you money on your fuel bills too. And with the sunny seasons of the year fast approaching, now is the perfect time to consider having them done. Solar panels make your house more valuable too since homebuyers love eco-friendly features, so if you come to sell later down the line, you’ll make extra money on your property. Solar panels generally pay for themselves in just a few years so are a great investment, and better still there are all kinds of government schemes and initiatives out there which can drastically slash the costs. Any solar panel company will be able to give you more information. It’s worth finding out what help is available in your area, since they’re a highly beneficial home upgrade to make.
Make Your Garden Gorgeous
Chances are you don’t use your garden much throughout the autumn and winter. When it’s freezing cold and drizzly, and all of the greenery has died off, it’s not a particularly nice environment to sit in! But spring and summer is a completely different matter, and you essentially get a whole other ‘room’ in your home you can enjoy. The perfect place to sit in the morning before starting your day with a coffee, or to wind down in the evening with a glass of wine. You can have alfresco family dinners on mild evenings, and throw barbecues and garden parties for friends and family on the weekends. Spruce up the space you have any enjoy it, not everyone is lucky enough to have a garden at home so if you do, take advantage. If your lawn is looking a little worse for wear, sprinkle down some grass seed and give it a few weeks to establish before mowing. Plant up some colorful blooms in your borders and pots. Pressure wash slabs or decking to remove any buildup of moss or rotting leaves and generally give it a tidy.
Get Crafty and Upcycle
Upcycled furniture is all the rage, you can save money while again helping the environment. Instead of perfectly good (albeit a little dated looking) furniture going to landfill, you can bring it back up to scratch and make it look beautiful and modern. The thing about upcycling is you generally need to do it outdoors where it’s ventilated, and there’s space, so now the weather is nicer it’s a great opportunity to do so. Put down some old sheets in case you spill paint, and get to work sanding, repairing and repainting some beautifully crafted old pieces of furniture.
