Bathrooms are often neglected when it comes to interior design. People buy a home and settle with what they’ve been given. But bathrooms hold so much potential. Both aesthetically and practically. Think about it. They’re the room that everyone in the house uses to get clean. We all use the bathroom regularly, so make it an appealing and comfortable space. Here are a few ideas to get you started on your bathroom overhaul and renovation.
Believe it or not, you can alter your bathroom’s walls. Whether you fancy a new color or an entire switch up when it comes to design, the options are potentially limitless. When it comes to colors, many people opt for seafoam greens, ocean blues and other shades reminiscent of the sea. These are brilliant colors for any bathroom. They’re fresh and light. But you don’t have to go for them. You can opt for alternative colors. Black and white are great choices, especially if you have tiled floors or tiling on the walls around a bathtub. Sensuous, deep reds are great for those of us who like to kick back and relax in the tub with candles and floating petals.
Carpet is a general no-go when it comes to bathrooms. It will get damp and start to come away from the floor and smell surprisingly quickly. If you want to step out of the bath or shower onto something cozy, absorbent and dry, we’d recommend buying a small bathmat. This gives a similar effect to carpeting, but can be bundled into the washing machine to be regularly and thoroughly cleaned. For the actual flooring, we’d recommend tiles or lino flooring. These are easily cleanable and water resistant. They will also give a good visual effect, as they will reflect light and make the room appear especially squeaky clean.
You don’t have to settle for the shower you’ve been left with. Showers generally come in one of two formats. A standalone shower or a shower within a bath. If you opt for a shower within a bath, make sure you invest in a good shower curtain that will prevent your floors becoming flooded. Plenty of pretty designs are available. If shower curtains aren’t your thing, you could go for a more high end look with shower panels and guards. Check out selections available from a shower panel company for ideas and inspiration. Choosing a good showerhead is also important. Make sure it has a good pressure and settings that can be easily changed.
Lighting in bathrooms is key. Many have frosted windows or maybe no window at all for your privacy. But this blocks out natural daylight. Nobody wants a dark, gloomy room in their home other than the Addams family. Choose effective lighting. The best types can be dimmed, so you can have the room bright and fresh as you’re getting ready for the day ahead and calm and sultry as you bathe before you get out and drift off to sleep.
