Most of us are usually running around like chickens with their heads cut off -the days just always seem to fall just short of long enough to get things done! Open space can sometimes feel like you’ve won some kind of lottery, but I’ve found it is important to schedule this kind of time in, otherwise I would lose my mind.
If you’re looking for interesting things to do with some free time -or Me Time- this list might be just what the doctor ordered!
Making Your Own Chocolate
Of course this is the first thing on the list! I’m addicted, and really enjoy making my own chocolate whenever I can. Although there are many different -and not too difficult- recipes available online, I’ve included a quick overview so you can see how easy it actually is to do.
Stir cocoa powder and softened butter together in a bowl until the mixture is smooth. Pour this cocoa butter into a pot of hot water, stirring thoroughly. Transfer this mixture to a large bowl, adding sugar and milk, and, after stirring, pour the chocolate into an ice cube tray for snacks, or a casserole dish for larger portions. Refrigerate your mixture overnight, so that it hardens, and test the product as a treat!
Crochet Something Cute
Do you have puppers that suffer from the cold, like mine do? Then what about crocheting a dog sweater?
There are great dog sweater crochet patterns available totally free online, and it’s really not as difficult to do as you may imagine. Choose an easy to follow pattern, supplement your choice with a YouTube tutorial, and, before you know it, you will have created something beautiful for the furriest member of your family.
This is a great way to keep productive while you are watching television and the like, as well, and the sense of accomplishment you will enjoy when you have finished is highly recommended.
Rediscover Games from Your Childhood
Thanks to the Internet, there is very little that we can’t accomplish directly from home, either on our mobile devices or our laptops or desktops. One of the things I indulge in as and when I can is Pac-Man, a game I absolutely adored when I was younger. There are also loads of other games available too, especially now that the gaming industry has so many major players, but Pac-Man is my go-to.
It takes me back to the good old, bad old days, and also just helps me relax when I am feeling a little overwhelmed. Focusing on nothing but making my way through that blue maze, eating the Pac-dots, getting to the fruit in time, and avoiding the ghosts, is good for me.
Make a Sugar Skull at Home
You’ve probably noticed that I have a special fondness for sugar skulls, and I make them myself every so often. Again, there are very detailed recipes available totally free online, and this makes for a satisfying, enjoyable hobby.
Sugar sculptures in the shape of skulls are a traditional part of the Day of the Dead celebration of Southern Mexico. They are not usually eaten, however, and are used to decorate homes and graves instead. If you make yours properly it can last for quite a while, several months, and you have the choice of using traditional ingredients or modern-day substitutions.
