The holiday. The one you look forward to for what feels like an eternity. The chance to unwind, relax, perhaps read a book and drink a cocktail or two. But there is one finer detail that has been left out of that idyllic description. It’s a family holiday with the kids. Now don’t get me wrong, a family holiday is amazing. It’s the chance to have some real quality time with one another. With the hustle and bustle of daily life it’s hard to snatch those moments. But let’s face it, a holiday with children can be a little stressful and overwhelming. So I thought I would share with you some hacks to make a holiday abroad with children more enjoyable.
Think about every eventuality when travelling
Whether it’s a shorthaul flight or longhaul you have to think smart when it comes to travelling with children. You will no doubt be hit with the old faithful question of are we there yet? So one of the best things you can do is pack things to keep them occupied. Depending on the age of your children a great little idea is to wrap up little gifts. These don’t have to be extravagant, it could be a simple as a coloring book and crayons, to a lego set. Wrapping them up gives them the added excitement of ripping the paper open. You could time one to be pulled o0ut of your hand luggage every hour. If you are travelling with your partner or husband then a great idea would be tag team occupying the kids. This could be using a timer on your phone, once it is in flight mode that is, and set it for 30 minutes. That way you get 30 minutes of peace to drink a beverage and read your book, and then 30 minutes occupying the children and dealing with their needs. This means that both of you get some sort of a relaxing journey.
Make sure the accommodation is child friendly
The accommodation you are staying in is vital. It must be suitable for your children and their ages. This could mean picking a family hotel with on-site facilities, or a villa or house rental. It all depends on where you go I suppose. Some holiday destinations would suit a hotel choice. Whereas a destination like Orlando may mean a house rental maybe more suitable for your family. You can find vacation rentals in Orlando easily online. It’s also worth considering the location of your accommodation to where the attractions are, the beach or any local restaurants to eat in. This will make things much easier when you are there.
Plan the holiday as best you can
Unless you are one super-organised mama it’s impossible to plan every detail of your holiday. But you can give it a good go. By this I mean if there are attractions to see then decided the days you want to do them. Use the weather app on your phone to determine the best days to do things. So if you know of a particularly sunny day then use that for some time round the pool or at the beach. Planning your days wisely means your children are less likely to be bored and you can all enjoy your holiday together.
I hope these tips help you enjoy your holiday with your kids.
