I’m starting to wonder whether back in the 50’s they had food a bit more sorted. I know that they had a high in fat and sugar but they had a very active lifestyle, so is all this sugar free, no added sugar products good for us?
I’ve read all about the side effects from Aspartame and it’s scarily in a lot of things, but what if we went without anything with sweeteners in it? I know that somethings might not exist without but I will do my best to find products without but also picking less sugar options in other ways.
So I believe we have a fairly active lifestyle so we should fair ok, plus I do love the retro 1950 lifestyle so will really enjoy researching back to recipes and foods.
The only difference that we will be doing is featuring a wider variety of fruit than available in those days. No takeaways, home cooked meals every night (we pretty much do this already), normal squash, plain yoghurt with fruit added, jelly and old school deserts.
I would like to pick up a bread maker secondhand and start making my own bread and once my supermarket vouchers are used up will be trying a old school week of buying all supplies from baker, greengrocer and butcher with other supplies from a small corner shop.
Could you go without artificially sweetened products? Do you do it already? Would love to know people’s thoughts and any retro tips and recipes : )
