Given that you spend most of your time asleep in here, your bedroom might not be at the top of your interior design list. However, your bedroom is arguably one of the most important rooms in the house.
Getting enough sleep and the right amount of sleep is really important for your health. More and more, lack of sleep is being linked to problems in later life, from the chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease to dying young. For all that we still don’t really understand how sleep functions, it is clear that we need to get as much of the good stuff as possible.

Getting the Right Bed
The right bed is vital for a good night’s sleep. You need to be comfortable, of course, but you also need to make sure that your back and neck are supported. This is where your choice of mattress comes in.
Contrary to popular belief, a more expensive mattress isn’t necessarily better. Instead, you need to try out each one and the best price mattress with the most comfort. When you go around the showroom, try each bed in turn and take time for it to sink slightly. Around 10 minutes lying in your usual position should give an indication of whether the mattress suits or not.
Making it Dark
We are terrible for having lots of lights around the house and blue light is particularly problematic for getting good sleep. Our daily rhythms are all affected by the changes in natural light, but now that we have lots of lovely lights and screens in our homes, our patterns are disrupted.
The problem with blue light is that it heavily suppresses the production of melanin – the hormone that makes you sleepy. This means that if you are looking at screens late at night, you are less likely to get good quality sleep. The answer is simple: remove all screens from your bedroom, get blackout curtains and read to relax instead of watching TV.
A Clean and Harmonious Space
When you are about to go to sleep, the last thing you want to be thinking about is the chaos you are surrounded by. Even if the rest of your house is a bit messy, your bedroom should be a calm oasis where you can close the door and just relax.
You should also make sure that you change your bed regularly. As you sweat overnight, you also shed hair and skin particles too. Changing your bed gives you a nice fresh feeling but it also helps keep you healthy. Go for breathable cottons or silks for your bedding to keep your body cool overnight.
Having decent storage in your bedroom is a good way to close the doors on a lot of your mess. Hang up the clothes you have worn (or put them in the wash basket) and close the wardrobe doors again.
