There comes a time when everyone takes a look around them and wonders if the time is right for change. Many things can spur that thought. It could be that you want to strike out on your own. It could be that you have been left in an emptying nest and want to know what the future holds. It could simply be that you are bored of the walls around you and are desperate for a new life! Whatever the cause; this is a big decision. It could well involve moving to another location. Here are a few options to consider.
Buy a new home.
Everyone must consider this at some point. It is easy to imagine the attraction. You buy a house from a showroom or even off a plan. It is located in a good area close to amenities, schools and perhaps even work. The drawings show a sunny day in a leafy suburb and promise you a vision of yourself living happily here. There is no problem with that and many people choose to go down this route. However it does mean that you are likely to get tied up into a big home loan. That means you will have a mortgage for the next thirty years or so. Of course you take that on understanding that your home may increase in value and that you will be able to pay it off by the time you retire.
Renting an apartment.
Another option is the possibility of renting an apartment. This has the added attraction of allowing you to live in a place that has been done up to very high standard. Many complexes these days are state of the art and almost luxury developments. The advantages are that you will be living in a building that has security, services and amenities. For example you could well have a modern designer apartment with the use of pool and gym. The best apartments for rent these days are often in parts of town close to shopping and nightlife opportunities. In essence you would be renting a home and lifestyle that you could not afford to buy. You also have none of the expense that a homeowner would have, leaving you a real sense of freedom and lack of worry.
Renovate your current home.
A third option is to invest a little time and money renovating your current home. This is a particularly good option if you like where you are living. Some people enjoy their friendships and neighbours and social life. It is simply that the house they are in no longer suits them. If there are too many rooms why not combine two or even three into a more modern open plan house? You could convert a part of your home into an apartment and let it out. If space is an issue have you looked into what an extension would cost? Updating your home could give you very real options. If you think about it, there is nothing inside the walls can’t be changed around.
The truth is that most of us have options, and that is a great position to be in. It is just that we might have to think about them a little and be prepared to make those changes. Who knows what exciting adventures lie ahead no matter what you decide?
