It’s taken a few days to prepare for writing about how incredible it was being invited to the preview of Privet Drive! As part of the Warner Bros Studio Tour’s celebrations of the 15th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone film release, they are offering you the chance to step inside number four, Privet Drive and peer into the Dursleys’ living room.
After work Elaine from A hint of white and I, along with a daughter each headed 140 miles to visit one of my favourite places ever! It was exciting with neither of our daughters having visited before, and my daughter is really not long starting to get into Harry Potter but is so far loving it and keeps requesting a Harry Potter room!
We were greeted with Prosecco, smoking cocktails and juices whilst we waited for everyone to arrive, giving us time to fight with camera settings and gaze longingly into the gift shop. Then it was into the holding area, the cinema and then into the great hall…
Tables were set ready for a banquet, if only we were allowed to take a seat! As a special surprise, just for us the sorting hat was put on display.
Being my fourth visit, I concentrated my photos more on the details rather on the scenes and sets.
A taste leading up to the excitement of Privet Drive, with the Dursleys outfits on show for the event.
I’ll just take a seat here in the Gryffindor Common Room, mines milk and 2 sugars.
Ok, so I couldn’t resist taking a nice shot of Dumbledore’s office, the depth in this set is stunning!
What would be my favourite shop if I ever got to visit, Borgin and Burkes of course!
Then before you knew it, we were being called to the Backlot Cafe and followed the lovely smell of the yummy canapés being served. We were also treated to Butterbeer and Butterbeer Ice cream.
To cut the ribbon, we welcomed a special guest in the form of Mrs Dursley aka Fiona Shaw, who got back into character at the door and didn’t want to let us in!
The time has finally come that you can walk through the door, walk through the Dursleys’ Hall and peek inside the lounge!! But beware it’s only for a limited time!
To be greeted by the scene of a full room of Harry’s Hogwarts Letters! And an awesome extra during the Privet Drive event you can see the special effect of the how the letters shoot through the front door and you get to keep a letter!!! Unfortunately they were using the originals for the preview so we didn’t get one!
It was amazing as always to visit the Studio Tour, time went by so quickly and we were literally running around the gift shop before it shut! Then it was back in the car for 140 mile trip home – which turned out to be more like 160 miles as helpfully they shut our motorway exit!
Already thinking about when we can go back again!
Number Four, Privet Drive opens it’s doors to visitors Friday 27th May – Monday 6th June.
