Spring is here, and your garden is starting to look more inviting by the minute. Spending time watching the birds and the bees do their stuff during the day is a great way to relax and unwind, but you shouldn’t forget that spending evenings in the garden can be just as special and even more relaxing – you just need to ensure your garden is set up for evening use.
Light Your Way
It still gets dark fairly early in the evening, so if you want to enjoy your garden as much at dusk as you do dawn, it would be a good idea to add some lighting to your outdoor space. Solar lanterns, candles, and fairy lights are all good options, which add charm as well as functionality to the garden. Just remember to light some citronella candles or incense to keep critters that are attracted to the light at bay.
One of the joys of spending time in the garden is the scents of the plants and flowers that fill up your senses and make you feel glad to be alive. If you plant some night-blooming flowers, like jasmine and moonflower, you will be able to enjoy the wonderful scents of nature in the evening too.
Light a Fire
Even in spring and summer, it can get quite chilly in the evenings, especially if you’re going to stay out late, so having a fire in the garden is essential. Building a fire pit, and stocking your shed with British kiln dried firewood will ensure you can always stay warm and cosy in the garden, but you could also invest in a space heater if you’d prefer.
In the evening, you want to relax and unwind after a hard day’s work, and what better way to do that than with the relaxing sounds of your own water feature? Running water is a very soothing sound, which will instantly put you at ease, so install your own water fountain to keep you calm and give your garden a beautiful focal point.
Every garden needs good furniture. Sitting on a blanket on the lawn might be cool for kids, but adults need a bit more support. As a minimum, you should install a table and a few chairs, which should ideally be padded for extra comfort. A hammock and chaise longue could will add an extra touch of comfort if you like to lounge around the garden.
When you eat food outside, it always seems to taste better. Perhaps it’s the clean air that does it. So, if you want to eat tasty meals in the evenings, and maximise your time spent outdoors, buy a decent barbecue. That way, you won’t have to waste time slaving over a hot stove in the kitchen when you could be enjoying the clean, crisp air outdoors.
The weather can turn in an instant, so if you don’t want to get caught off-guard, it might be worth investing in an awning, gazebo or even a summerhouse, so that you can enjoy the garden without getting wet!
