Got a date at the weekend?
Eek, that’s so exciting!
I bet you are already planning what to wear and how to do your hair and makeup. As well as all that excitement, you’re probably feeling a few nerves as well. Don’t worry about those, though; they are totally natural! I’ve been nervous before all the dates I’ve ever had. I think all girls do! And I think we get really nervous because we hear so many dating disaster stories in magazines and online. I’m sure you will want to try and avoid one of your own dating disasters, so here are my top tips for a smooth and successful date!
Do Some Prep
If you have found your date on an online dating site or app, you will have already spent some time chatting with them and will have an idea of what to expect. Before you leave to meet them, it’s a good idea to take a quick look at their profile again. You don’t want to turn up at the bar or restaurant and forget what they look like! I also think you should read through their profile once more as some last minute prep – it should give you a few nice ideas for conversation starters!
Ditch The Phone
Number one rule of dating: don’t be rude! So that means you are going to have to put your phone away. I’m sorry, but you just can’t be tweeting or taking pictures of your dinner for Instagram while you are on a date! Your date might get bored and could end up leaving. And that would be a complete embarrassment! It’s important you devote all your attention to your date. After all, they are there to chat with you, not watch you use your phone!
Let all your girlfriends know that you are going out on the date. Yeah, this is partially to show off that you actually have a date, but it can also help you stay safe. If they know where you have gone, they will know which bar or restaurant they should contact if you don’t arrive back at the end of the night. If your date offers you a ride home, it’s best not to get in their car. Wait until you get to know them better – better safe than sorry is what I always say!
Don’t Drink Too Much
One final tip is to lay off the booze. Well, at least enjoy it responsibly. Enjoying a glass or two of wine is fine as it might help you overcome your nerves. But any more could see you tip over the edge into tipsiness. Your date could think you are drunk! So, remember to stay level-headed, as this will give off the best impression. It will also help to keep you safer as well.
So there you have it, all of my awesome tips to avoid dating disasters. These should help to keep your date fun, relaxed and, most importantly, safe!
Enjoy your night out together!
