How much would your kids love it if Father Christmas sent a Elf to stay until Christmas Eve?
This is a tradition that many parents do which I believe originated in the US and it’s one I plan to start this year for my kiddies.
So if you’ve never heard of it the plan is:
Find a elf – I plan on searching the shops this week as all the decorations are out and about but many can be found on ebay, amazon and etsy.
Decide when he/she is coming to visit – December 1st for ours bringing advent calendars along with his letter from Father Christmas and passport with his suitcase (If I can find one) with his toothbrush . But you could have them when you put up your decs, or a couple of weeks before xmas?
The idea is the Elf has been sent from Father Christmas to report back on children’s behaviour on Christmas Eve, but also they tend to get up to mischief on their stay!!
There are so many ideas for how they arrive, what they get up to and you can make it as much or as little as you like.
Personally I am going to send a letter from Father Christmas letting the children know that the elf will be coming to stay and will pop up at some point that day, he will come with his report book and each night will find a quiet but different place every night to write his report and have time to get up to mischief such as eating all the chocolate so the children find him in amongst empty chocolate wrappers! Or hidden in a pile of freshly washed clothes etc etc. Will try and organise myself with a planned list!
We will get him all packed up ready to leave on the night before Christmas Eve as I will have him leaving a Hamper with Xmas pj’s, new toothbrushes, dvd, book and xmas themed crafts and games for the day.
There is some great info on this site magic-elf-tradition (I have linked to there free printables above)
