Going on holiday is amazing. You get to chill out on the beach with your loved ones, visit exciting new places, and hopefully get a beautiful tan! But unfortunately, a lot of people are not going on holiday at all anymore. In fact, they are barely using their holiday allowance. With more people than ever not using their vacation time, it’s becoming a reality that we are spending more time with our boss than our family! Whether it’s the cost or arranging the time off, people often can’t go abroad on holiday. If this is the case for your family, here are 11 fab ways to make you feel like you’re on holiday, without leaving your home!
Turn your garden into a beach
If you want to feel like you’re on holiday while your at home, you could turn your garden into a beach for the day. Get out the kids sandpits and then they can sit and make sandcastles in the backyard. Then you need to find your deck chairs and put them out so you can sunbathe. If it’s a beautiful day, you could spend a couple of hours out there in the sun in your bathing suit. Remember your sunglasses, and put on some sounds of waves for effect. To make it even more fun, you could have a beach party where everyone comes and chills out in your garden. Tell them to wear their swimsuit, bring their flip flops and a beach ball! With everyone there, you will soon feel like you are on a beach abroad!
Have a Hawaiian themed party
Hawaii might feel like worlds away, but you could bring a bit of the fun country to your property! Having a Hawaii themed party will be a lot of fun for you and all the family. All you need to do is to invite some guests. Tell the girls to bring their Hula skirts, and the men to wear the brightest shirts they have. And don’t forget the iconic floral leis to make it really fun. You can buy some great tableware accessories and decorations which are Hawaiian themed. They will look fantastic in your garden. Then you hang up some beautiful tea lights so the party can continue into the night. As well as having a lively soundtrack, you need to organise some games. Hula Hoops are a must, and will get you all giggling. A limbo game is also a lot of fun for everyone too! If you want to push the boat out, you could browse Bubble Shack Hawaii online for some body treats to make you feel like you are in Hawaii!
Get the paddling pool out
One of the best things about going on holiday is swimming in the pool. Not only is swimming a lot of fun, but it’s a great form of exercise. If you can’t get abroad, and are not lucky enough to have a pool in your backyard; you could still get out the paddling pool! It’s a lot of fun for the kids, and you can even get in there with them for some great fun. Be prepared for your children to get the garden and home soaked, though, so make sure you have some towels ready for them to dry off!
In the current age, we spend so much times indoors rather than heading outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. And on holiday, you often get to eat outdoors which is a great experience. Therefore, if you can’t go away why not set the table outdoors when you next cook lunch or dinner. As this article explains, you should try and plan to use your garden more, and eating al fresco is a great way to start. You could have a BBQ as this will make you feel like you are on holiday. It’s easy to buy some meat and salad and don’t forget a nice bottle of wine. However, when eating outside, make sure you use some candles to stop wasps coming near your food! At least, if anything drops on the floor, you don’t have to worry about stains on your carpet!
Cook different cuisines
One of the best things about going on holiday is trying the new cuisine. There’s always something unique to try that looks delicious. For example, if you were visiting Italy, you would be trying the pasta dishes, while a visit to Mexico would mean delicious burritos! But trying different cuisines can be done at home too. Find a recipe book, or research online, and then cook a different meal from each cuisine for a week. It’s a great way to educate your kids about the cultures, and you can even accessorise the table with the various countries flags! They will be talking about it to their friends at school for ages. You could even invite some friends over for an international food party too. Tell them to bring a dish of choice from a country, and they will have a fab time!
Watch a foreign film
If you want to feel like you’re on holiday, you should watch a foreign film! It will feel like you are somewhere else due to the different language. Choose a classic, and make sure you put subtitles up so that you can understand what’s going on. It’s a great way for you all to learn some of the basics of the language! You could even watch a series of films from a movie festival to enjoy yourself.
Redecorate your home
If you can’t get away this year, an excellent way to feel like you are somewhere different is to decorate your home. The bedroom is a great place to start as you can make it feel like a hotel room. As described here, you can get an excellent mattress and cushions in neutral colours. You could even put a mini-coffee station in there so you can have a cup while you are in bed. Or you could theme your room to a particular country by looking for ideas online. A Mexican or Moroccan themed bedroom would be fabulous, and will really make you feel like you’re somewhere else when you wake up!
One of the best things about going abroad is the alcoholic drinks that you can have while you are there! Cocktails are especially a top favourite while you are on holiday. But they can be easily made at home; all you need is a shaker and some top recipes! You can look online to find a list of cocktails, or even watch some videos on Youtube where they will show you how to do it! Get some friends over, and you will have a fab night!
Have a spa day
Another great thing about going holiday is to be able to relax, and stop worrying about the stresses of real life. A lot of hotels offer a spa service so that you can book a massage or facial while you are there. But if you can’t go on holiday, it is possible to have a spa day at home. Treat yourself to a luxurious bath to detox, and ask your partner for a massage. You can also have a face mask to treat your skin. Make sure you cut and paint your nails so they are looking fab too. A spa day will relax you, and make you feel like you have been away.
Get your tents out
Camping is always a fun holiday option for all the family. But if you can’t afford to go on vacation to a campsite, you can get the tents out at home. Set them up in the garden then get a bonfire going so you can sing campfire songs, and even cook marshmallows. Tell ghost stories (although not too scary for the kids!) and you will soon feel like you are on holiday! At least, you will be able to use your home’s toilet if you do need to go in the middle of the night! You don’t have to actually sleep out there if it’s too cold; spend a few hours outside, and then head indoors when it’s time for bed!
Switch off your technological devices
When you are on holiday, you tend to turn off your phone and iPad so that you can relax. You don’t watch much television either, as it’s mostly in a different language. If you want to feel like you’re like away on holiday, why not turn off your technological devices for a while. Turn off your phone and put it upstairs, and make sure you switch off the television. Now you can spend time as a family without any inconvenience, and you can truly relax!
Follow the above and you won’t need to go abroad! And remember don’t overload yourself at work, and your social life, as you will end up exhausted every day. As discussed here, try and relax while you are at home, and you will feel more happy, and like you’re on a holiday every day!
